Among the gifts was one that seemed almost too ordinary to remember.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Daniel\u2019s father, Robert, arrived carrying a neatly wrapped package. When Claire opened it, she found a large decorative pillow covered in soft cream-colored fabric.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\u201cFor the living room,\u201d Robert said simply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finding suspicious equipment did not automatically prove who had placed it there, when it had been installed or whether it had ever been activated. Claire understood that anger could easily turn unanswered questions into assumptions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Still, one fact could not be ignored: something that did not belong inside an ordinary decorative pillow had been deliberately concealed beneath its fabric.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The discovery changed more than the family\u2019s anniversary evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Daniel finally told Claire the full extent of the conflict with his father. He admitted that he had hidden parts of the dispute because he wanted to protect their marriage from unnecessary stress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
