He says that to this day he cannot remember exactly what he did in those seconds. Everything seemed to be in a fog, and reality and consciousness were separated from each other. The 19-year-old, whose name we will change and call him Artur, tells about the most terrible day of his life, an incident that changed not only his fate, but also the lives of several families.
“I didn’t even realize what I was doing… it was as if I was hypnotized by the moment,” he says in a trembling voice. His eyes fill with anxiety as he tries to relive the moments that still haunt him every night.
It was an ordinary day. Artur had returned from the city with his friends, music was playing in the car, they were talking about the future, joking. No one imagined that in just a few minutes everything would change irrevocably.
Artur remembers that the road was empty, the speed was within the permitted limits, and nothing hinted at danger. But suddenly, as he says, “something snapped inside.” He can’t explain whether it was fear, fatigue, or simply a momentary loss of control.
“A second… and that’s it. I no longer understood where I was, what I was doing,” he says.

The car starts to swerve off the road. One of his friends screams, the other tries to grab the steering wheel, but it’s too late. Everything happens in seconds, but those seconds stretch out like an eternity.
The collision is loud. The creaking of metal, the breaking of glass, and the screams of people blend into a terrible noise that Arthur cannot forget. When he comes to, there is silence around him. That silence is more terrifying than the sound of the collision.
He tries to move, to understand what has happened. Opening his eyes, he sees that everything has changed. One of his friends is unresponsive, the other is seriously injured. Arthur begins to panic.
“I didn’t know if it was real or a dream. I tried to wake up, but I couldn’t,” he says.
Eyewitnesses rush to help. Soon the ambulances and the police arrive. Arthur sits on the side of the road, frozen, his eyes blank. He hears people talking, but he doesn’t understand the words.
The doctors try to save the injured. The hours pass unnoticed, but for Arthur, time stopped at the very moment he lost control.
Later, an examination shows that the car had no technical problem. It all comes down to the human factor: a moment of distraction, a moment that turned fatal.
But Arthur doesn’t accept it easily. He keeps asking the same question: “Why?” Why at that moment, why with him, why couldn’t he have prevented all this.
His family tries to support him, his friends do too, but inside he remains alone with his thoughts. At night, he wakes up to the same scene: the collision, the screams, the silence.
“I wish I could turn back time… even for a second,” he says.
This story is not just the tragedy of one young man. It is a reminder to everyone of how fragile life is, and how quickly everything can change.
A moment of inattention can become the greatest pain in life. A moment can divide life into “before” and “after.”
Arthur is now trying to live in that “after.” He is trying to accept reality, to learn to live with the guilt and pain that will never go away.
But every time he is asked what he felt at that moment, he repeats the same thing.
“I didn’t know what I was doing… as if I were hypnotized.”
And it is in those words that the terrible truth is hidden, which is difficult to accept but impossible to forget.
