For the past several weeks, Daniel had become unusually careful with his phone.

He carried it from room to room, always placed it face down, and had suddenly developed a habit of leaving the room whenever he needed to answer certain messages. Each of these details might have meant nothing on its own. Together, however, they formed a pattern his wife could no longer ignore.

She simply chose not to confront him yet.

After fourteen years of marriage, she knew Daniel well enough to recognize when something was wrong.
